GuzangMiao tribe festival, Guzang hosted in mid November

The once of every twelve years, a long awaiting ancestor worship festival of Miao tribe, is to be hosted in Leishan county, Guizhou province in mid of November of 2024.
The festival is known as Guzang, which means worship the bronze drum which to wake up the ancestors, bring them from the invisible world to the celebration with the people in the visible world. The ancestors are supposed to bring good fortune, wealth, seven girls and nine sons to each family as they are from the invisible world.


To wake the ancestors, the huge bronze drum is carried to the highest peak of the mountains near the village, sacrifice including duck, egg, fish, pig head, sticking rice cake, are the offerings to them as they are wakened in the once of every twelve years. The ancestors are led by the shaman and worship committee of dozens of people from the village. At the entrance of the village, the offerings will be distributed to each family who wait on the lower worship stage. The offerings ,that the blessings have been applied to ,are shared at home.
Entertainments , including bull fights, dancing in the village square in the company of Lusheng instrument and bronze drum starts after the worship ritual to amuse the people both of visible and invisible world.
The Guzang festival of this year starts in mid-November .
November 12, the relatives and friends will arrive at the village
November 13, worship ritual starts before daybreak
Novem 14-25, shaman and worship committee visit the family one by one , bring invisible gods and wealth , fortune to the family.
November 25, 26. Bullfights by the river
November 28-30. People wear festival dress and dance to the bronze drum and Lusheng instrument( pipeline instrument)
